Community Health

About the Community Health Team

The Community Health team at the CORE Center and Stroger Hospital focuses on HIV-related community health promotion interventions for HIV-vulnerable sexual and gender minority communities across Chicagoland and Cook County. Our lab is led by Dr. Sybil G. Hosek, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Director of Research within the Division of Psychology, Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse at the Stroger Hospital of Cook County Health. Dr. Hosek is also an Associate Professor of Medicine, within the Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

Mr. Balthazar and Mr. Serrano are currently doctoral trainees in Community Psychology and Public Health, respectively. Mr. Balthazar teaches undergraduate research methods at College of DuPage, and Mr. Serrano teaches research methods at the Feinberg School of Medicine. Their scholarship focuses on community-engaged research practice with Black and Latina/x/o communities in Chicago, including collaborative dissemination, partnership development, planning, and pilot studies supported by the Third Coast Center for AIDS Research at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.
